How to Find a Cheap Futon Mattress

So, the time has come to buy a new futon mattress? Perhaps your current mattress has begun to deteriorate, developing lumps or the seams are coming apart. Or, you've decided to start using your futon more and need a more comfortable mattress to sit and sleep on. Regardless of the reason, selecting the right futon mattress is essential. If you get this wrong then you will find that your futon will be uncomfortable and won't give you the best night's sleep.

The size of the futon mattress is important. If it is too small you won't have enough room for a good sleep; nor will it be comfortable for when it is used as a couch. Mattresses for futons have only three sizes. They are twin, full and queen. A twin size mattress is best reserved for children or teenagers due to their small size. A full size mattress is the bare minimum you should have for a futon that will be sleeping a couple.

The largest and most roomy size is the queen, and this is the best mattress to sleep two people.

When it comes to comfort, the filling of the mattress is an important consideration. A cotton mattress is cheap but will quickly develop lumps and bumps. You will need to rotate this type of mattress often to even out the lumps - perhaps every time you use it. A foam mattress is the next level up and can be quite comfortable if you are willing to spend the money. Inner-spring futon mattresses are the same type of mattress that are used for a bed. They are the most expensive but also the most comfortable of all the futon types.

Another factor in the comfort level of a futon is the thickness of the mattress. If you are going to be using the futon as a spare bed then a 6 inch mattress is suitable. However, if the futon is going to be used regularly, perhaps as a bed full time, then you will need an 8 to 9 inch mattress. One disadvantage of a thicker mattress is that it will heavier and more awkward to maneuver when it comes time to change the futon from a bed to a couch.

These factors - size, filling and thickness - are the three most important considerations you need to make when it comes time to search for a new mattress. If you spend just a few moments deciding on these factors you will find that buying a new futon mattress is a very easy process.
